It all started with homeschool-mom of four, Shannon, ran into a conundrum: her son wanted special crayons for his building-brick-themed birthday party. Never one to shrink from a creative challenge, Shannon started to experiment with peeling and melting old crayons into homemade molds. The brick-shaped crayons were a hit with her son and his friends (of course) and opened the door to limitless ideas for molds, color combinations, and endless coloring potential.

The Creative Crayon Workshop is a home-grown business—literally. Each part of the crayon-creation process happens in Shannon’s home, from the crayon peeling and unique molds to the thoughtful packaging. And it’s a family affair, as every order is packed and put together by Shannon and her family in Columbia, TN. The kids help her sort upcycled crayons by color and are expert testers and idea-generators to boot. Even the name— Creative Crayon Workshop— refers to “little people” making, packaging, and sending goodies, like a whimsical Santa’s workshop.

Creative Crayon Workshop offers artists of all ages endless, fun ways to color. Shannon even creates personalized orders for folks who want crayons that look like their cat, or match their graduate’s school colors. As the business took off, she even started offering crayon box subscriptions.
