Back in 1992, Rainwater Farm founder Colette Souder almost didn’t try the homemade soaps her friend gifted her, but curiosity got the better of her. After just a few scrubs, she was sold. Colette couldn’t imagine going back to store bought soaps, when these humble oatmeal bars offered such a luxurious, moisturizing, guilt-free wash-up experience.

As Colette began experimenting with creating her own artisan soaps, she also became enamored with the idea of a slower, rural life; within the year, she’d moved her family from Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to Maryville, Tennessee where she launched Rainwater Farm.

She started selling Oatmeal Lavender bar soaps, made from rainwater collected on her property. As she built up local loyalty selling at craft fairs, farmer’s markets, and festivals all around East TN, she expanded her product line to include natural, homemade must-haves including laundry soap, pet care products, and skin care. Building the business was a true family affair, with every piece and process handled by Colette, her husband, and their six children. Today, Rainwater Farm is a two-generation family business. Colette’s oldest daughter, Kathleen Souder, is a co-owner based in Music City.
