When you bite into a Goo Goo Cluster, you’re biting into more just than a tasty treat. You’re experiencing a piece of bona fide candy bar history. The first “combination candy bar” to hit the shelves over 100 years ago, the Goo Goo Cluster is a delectable conglomerate of gooey caramel, marshmallow nougat, fresh-roasted peanuts, and creamy milk chocolate sure to delight every candy connoisseur.

Before the Goo Goo Cluster, all candy bars were single ingredient— all chocolate, all caramel, all taffy. The Goo Goo Cluster broke all the rules by bringing several sweet ingredients together to create one distinctive flavor. Even its shape, a roundish mound, went against the grain of typical rectangular bars. What can we say? Goo Goo is a sweet, salty rebel.
Goo Goo Clusters are a Tennessee classic, invented at Standard Candy Company on First Avenue in Nashville, way back in 1912. Some think that the name was an homage to the Grand Ole Opry (GOO), but a little digging will tell you the Opry wasn’t founded until 1925. So what’s the real story? The name’s official originator was Howell Campbell, the recipe’s creator. Inspired by his son’s first words, “goo goo,” the joke-turned-marketing-strategy became: “Goo Goo! It’s so good, people will ask for it from birth.”
Nashville is still home to Goo Goo Cluster, with its flagship headquarters nestled in downtown Music City next to beloved neighbors like the Johnny Cash Museum and Ryman Auditorium.
For more than a century, Goo Goo Cluster has stayed remarkably true to its roots. The original Goo Goo is still going strong as the company’s most popular pick, but pecan and peanut butter variations explore new flavor profiles without straying too far from the classic recipe. We love to incorporate this Tennessee staple in our lavish chocolate gift baskets alongside other favorite Volunteer-state confections.
Treat yourself to a cluster (or two), or brighten someone else’s day— our baskets make excellent gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, or as a heartfelt “thank you”. Any chocolate-lover will go ga-ga over Goo Goos.
