Few things have the power to bring people together like coffee. The folks behind Honest Coffee connect the dots between humans across the globe: those enjoying a cup together stateside and those nurturing the beans on the farm in Guatemala. Roasted in small batches in Franklin, TN, every Honest Coffee brew is fresh, flavorful, and ethically sourced.
While Honest Coffee as we know it was founded in 2014, the company’s story has deep Tennessee family roots. In 1800, James Green, a grocer from Franklin, TN, was looking for coffee to stock in his general store. He saddled up for the three day trip to Nashville— a place where VIPs and presidents would visit specifically for a good cup of joe. Green brought back coffee beans, flour, rice, and more to sell in his grocery store in Franklin.
Fast forward two centuries and enter Honest Coffee founder Brett Henry, James Green’s great-great-grandson. Sharing his patriarch’s fondness for great coffee, he continues the tradition of bringing fine, fresh, and ethically sourced coffee home to his community.. In 2014, Honest Coffee Roasters became Franklin’s very first specialty coffee roasting company. The original Green’s Grocery still stands on the southern edge of Franklin in Historic Leiper's Fork, but its grocery days are long past. The historically preserved building is now a music venue and private listening room where country’s biggest stars play unbilled, intimate sets for friends and fans.
Honest Coffee has a special place in our hearts because it was also one of Made in TN’s first brick-and-mortar neighbors when we opened our first location in the Factory at Franklin. We’re honored to share space and stories with this incredible local company, and it’s been a joy to watch the business grow, expand, and evolve over the years—never losing sight of its mission.
