Sometimes the right words at the right time can make all the difference. That’s the spirit behind Kate Whitley’s detailed artwork and her very special East Nashville business, Little Things Studio. Kate combines timeless inspiration and vintage palettes with hand-lettered hymns, songs, and quotes to create beautiful, original prints and paper goods.
Every Little Things Studio product is hand-drawn and lettered by the artist, then refined using modern digital tools. Kate’s style is heavily influenced by folk art, with whispers of Scandinavian, Russian, and Native American heritage. Her message is always driven by her desire to communicate life’s truth, depth, joys, and sorrows in her work.
Artist Kate Whitley is a Nashvillian by way of small-town Mississippi; Yazoo City, to be exact. She has a super-thick Southern accent, a keen eye for color and graphic design, and a passion for hymns and history. Art is a “do-over” career path for Kate; she left her corporate banking job to pursue her designer dreams at an age when most folks are beginning their corporate ladder climb. Quitting the rat race to study design at Mississippi State University felt like “getting her life back,” and Kate quickly went to work braiding her Southern roots into her reimagined future.
Today, Kate’s Little Things Studio produces her unique original prints and paper goods for local customers and fans across the country. Kate is dedicated to creating art inspired by the things she loves and the messages she wants to see in the world. Every tea towel, calendar, art print, and greeting card is designed by Kate and packaged, sold, and shipped from her cozy studio in East Nashville.
