When Gary and Courtney Baron’s garden over-produced heirloom tomatoes, the couple started canning fresh salsa and giving it to friends and family. Not only did the gifts earn rave reviews; people started asking to buy their creations. The Barons soon found themselves moonlighting as salsa makers, canning after work and taking their mason jars to the Murfreesboro Farmers Market. They sold out early every Saturday and made more than a few bucks at the market; they also made friends with their booth neighbors. Soon, they started incorporating other local vendors’ fresh strawberries, peaches, and blackberries into their repertoire, creating the now infamous jams.

Nashville Jam Company still sources ingredients locally, insisting only pesticide-free, Tennessee-grown produce and buying only from organic farms. Not only are they supporting local growers and shortening the farm-to-table trip, they’re also getting—and giving—the best of the best.
