Greeting cards get a bad rap for being cheesy or overly sentimental. Sometimes, a little cheese is just what you need… but what about the rest of the times? Tiramisu Paperie makes beautifully designed, refreshingly honest cards for all kinds of life occasions. You know, the times when you want to deliver some sweet-but-tough love or a little irreverent sass to make someone laugh out loud. Leading with honesty, even when it’s a little rough around the edges, sets Tiramisu Paperie apart in a sea of greeting card sap.
Like so many of our makers, Tiramisu Paperie’s approach is inspired by real life experience. In the course of one year, founder Lisa DiVito lost two of the most important people in her life: her mother and her grandmother. In the midst of the grief, she recieved card after miserable card telling her “everything happens for a reason” and that “God won’t give you anything you can’t handle”. What she really needed to hear was something like “To hell with cancer!” or “You should be pissed!” or “This sucks and you’re not alone.”
Lisa’s own experience with loss made her realize that life is too short not to be honest and real with the people you love. She started to make her own cards that said all the things she needed to hear, both in the hard times and the good. Based in Nashville, Tiramisu Paperie pays homage to both her Southern home and her Italian heritage. “Tiramisu” literally means “a little pick-me-up” in Italian, perfectly capturing the brand’s intention. Lisa runs the paperie with her neuro-divergent son, proudly growing a family business that will help him find his purpose as well as financial security when he grows older.
